There are several really good online resources for garb but I thought I better do some of my own research too.
Well I’ve ordered several (and received 2) books that were suggested as good resources for Japanese Garb. I ordered silk fabric swatches from both http://www.silkconnection.com and http://www.dharmatrading.com/ . I didn’t know what weight silk I need for my garb and I suspect the answer is “It depends”. I’m hoping the swatches help since I have only worked with silk 1 time and it was a cheap lightweight remnant purchased at SR Harris. Yummy.. SR Harris, I should go again someday soon. I have a bunch of white linen that I think I’m going to use for the kosode, at least as my first try in sewing anything like this. The linen was for a shirt for my hubby but since he isn’t playing SCA anymore I figure it is fair game.

I’m still deciding if I want to do Heian or Kamakura period. I’m leaning toward Heian.
Actually there is still a lot I need to decide, but I figure starting with a kosode is a good thing to do.

I don’t really have a deadline, I should pick one. Not an outdoor event I shouldn’t think. So that would give me probably until the late fall to get it all together for an indoor event. I don’t know that it would work out for Jacks Historyfest (http://www.historyfest.com/) either. I will probably try to have my Viking done by then.
