Well I finally did it. I wore my own* Japanese garb for the first time ever last Saturday. No one yelled "you suck" or threw tomatoes at me. Actually I got a couple of complements. However I did not get pictures. Ok I got 1 very poor picture in very dim light with a cellphone camera with no flash with me making a silly face behind my beta test sensu.

Note to self, less glue when making sensu, mine looked messed up.

Also, my daughter Ashley is awesome. She said so herself. She did help me get back into my pants when I had to use the restroom.

Sunday I joined a couple Shire members and manned a demo table at Solstice. Several interested people took fliers. The day rained and misted on us and was generally unpleasant.

*for those who remember seeing me at Boars Head last December, that garb was loaned to me.

Ok it should be Ishikawa no Ayame. I think I will fill out the paperwork :)

Then I will have 2 of the 3 registered names in the shire :p

Ok actually I don't live in the borders of my shire, and neither does the other guy.... Rivenwood tower really needs to regester some stuff...

Waiting patiently
Will a letter come from you
Ink and paper gift
Is that your servant’s footfalls
Or just my noisy neighbor.

I have been looking and looking and trying to pick myself a new name.

What does everyone think of Ishikawa Ayame?

Oh! How cold the wind
Blowing through my empty room
Loneliness so cruel
Padded robes warm my body
But they cannot warm my heart

*shh it is after midnight here, so a new day*

I love evil plans
They make the most of our lives
Sad and pityfull
Are those who don't understand
Evil is so very cool!

My home quiet now
Children and pets are silent
Only I am left
Enjoying peace till morning
When the chaos will resume

First snow of the year
Drifts lazily through the air
Grey skies and white trees
Greet my eyes through the window
Perfect in the morning light

Eyes red from weeping
Your departing leaves me cold.
Until you come back
My sleeves will be weighed with tears
And my heart will be empty

Sunrise too early
Shining through open window
Motes of dust dancing
Why can't I just lie here more
Wrapped warmly in my blankets?

Large spider sitting,
in your home of silken threads
Fallen leaves blowing
Getting caught up in your web
How do you know it's not food?

The Boar rat and dog
Not signs of the Zodiac
Or hours of the day.
They come and beg for breakfast,
Before we even get ours.

(Ok guinea pigs are not boars... but cats didn't work either :P)

Sun kissed clouds glow red
As the evening light grows dim
Night is on its way.
The weekend over so fast,
And tomorrow comes too soon.

Daughter decided she NEEDED to wear them to History Fest today, but they held up. I teased her a lot that she was indecent running around in her underwear and would she please fix her collar.

I would have pictures except while I remembered the camera, the battery was at home in the charger....

They held up, now to see if they survive the first washing.

Dye arrived this week and hubby bought me a pot to dye in :D I love that man!

My daughters kosode and hakama are done and look pretty good. Picture will be later since I can't find the damn camera.

All fabric for daughters garb is here. The white kosode fabric is in the dryer and the hakama fabric is in the washer. This may also double as her Halloween costume. The bolt of silk arrived and is sitting in the living room. Dye has not yet been ordered since colors haven't been chosen.

Choosing colors for her and my garb is proving harder than I thought it would. I am not going to use any forbidden colors and even without those color combos there are a ton of lovely choices.

While at the fabric store I found 2.5 yards of linen look in 2 colors that will be perfect for tunics for the boys. Logan has no tunics at all anymore and I'm sure Galen could use a new one too.

Besides all that I want to make hoods before History Fest.

So much sewing to do..

I stumbled upon a printout dated 2003 with images from "The Costume Museum"

Apparently I have been interested in Japanese for a while now.

I was going to go to Officers Day (a SCA event) but well, I got a better offer. :D
My sister called me Friday and told me that she and sister #3 were going to go to "Japan Night" at MSU in Mankato.
So Saturday I hung around the house during the day, did some farming for Gods in FFXI, and in the afternoon grabbed my daughter and headed down to Mankato.

It was really neat, and far better than we had expected. I was half afraid that it would be 20 Anime freaks and us.
I was very glad to be mistaken.

Before we even went into to the ballroom we had fun with a big map of Japan with the names written in Hiragana. 2 of the 4 of us pretty much have that writing system down.

There were speakers, dance performances, singing and drumming.
Apparently MSU has an Anime club and we watched a presentation from them.

I saw some SCA friends there and one of them participated in the Aikido Demonstration. I knew he did Aikido but had never seen it in action. It was neat.
We didn’t get over to the booths at all, they had calligraphy a game with beans and chopsticks and I don’t remember what else.

There was food served and I tried everything and I think I liked it all.
A Fashion Show rounded up the night nicely.

Sunday, well Sunday I really did nothing but play video games with hubby and the kids. My daughter went to a friends house for a few hours.
It was a quiet Sunday, and sometimes quiet is just what you need. Ok it was not technically quiet with everyone yelling “Tango Down!” and “Grenade” but fun.
